Working together to support Academy Award nominated playwright José Rivera, the Alliance Theatre with Emory University will present a free reading of Rivera’s unproduced play, Boleros for the Disenchanted. Using actors from Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York (including members of the LAByrinth company) this play tells a beautiful story of a couple who meet and fall in love in Puerto Rico, and then many years later near the end of their lives find themselves close to an army base in Alabama. The play, which portrays the experience of an immigrant leaving a Caribbean island for the promise of a better life in the continental United States, is the story of two passionate people and the deep and intense commitment of a true marriage.

Co-sponsored by the Theater Studies Department, the Playwriting Center at Theater Emory and the Film Studies Department
